In the heart of the enchanting hills of the Val d’Orcia, San Quirico d’Orcia<\/strong> is one of the most beautiful villages in Tuscany, located on the pilgrimage route Via Francigena, a stop between Ponte d’Arbia and Radicofani. It preserves beautiful fortifications, the collegiate church and parish church, including the remains of the castle tower and the Horti Leonini, a typical garden of the sixteenth century.<\/p>\n

Visit of San Quirico<\/h2>\n

The historic centre is picturesque with its cobbled streets, wells, fountains and testimonies of its past that was animated by the passage of pilgrims on the Via Francigena, as evidenced by the presence of the Scala Hospital which housed them.
The main axis through the village is via Dante Alighieri, passing through the small Piazza della Libert\u00e0<\/strong> in the heart of San Quirico, with the church of San Francesco<\/strong> and its gothic elements that houses a Virgin attributed to Andrea della Robbia. On the other side are the Horti Leonini<\/strong>, typical Italian Renaissance gardens designed around 1540. In the centre is a beautiful statue of Cosimo III de’ Medici. In the upper part are the remains of the medieval Cassero Tower.
At the eastern end, the church of Santa Maria Assunta<\/strong> is a beautiful small simple Romanesque church dating back to the 11th century.<\/p>\n\n\n

Santi Quirico e Giulitta, San Quirico d’Orcia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n

Towards the northern entrance of the village, via Dante Alighieri, the Collegiale Santi Quirico e Giulitta <\/strong> (Cyricus and Julitta<\/em> in English) is a superb Romanesque building dating back to at least the 8th century, rebuilt in the 12th century. It has a beautiful portal of Lombard style, rare in Tuscany, and another on the side attributed to Giovanni Pisano. The baroque interior preserves beautiful works. Next to it is the Chigi Palace which houses the town hall. <\/p>\n\n\n

San Quirico Cypress<\/h3>\n

About 6 kilometres west of San Quirico d’Orcia, in the area known as I Triboli, it is one of the most photographed sites in Tuscany, yet just a grove of cypresses on rolling crops, in a landscape that changes colour with the seasons.<\/p>\n

At 7 km by road, 3 km by walk trough the hills is the charming Chapel of Madonna di Vitaleta<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n
