Pisa<\/strong> is a famous Tuscan city, famous all over the world thanks to its leaning tower, simply called Tower of Pisa, which has become one of the symbols of Italy, like the Colosseum in Rome<\/a> or the Rialto Bridge in Venice.
With nearly 90,000 inhabitants, it is a small, active and student town with three universities.
The main reason for visiting this city is the Square of Miracles (Piazza dei Miracoli<\/em> in Italian), where there are four majestic monuments, but it also has a picturesque historic centre and buildings and museums that bear witness to the time of the Maritime Republic when Pisa was a major power in the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

The most striking site in Pisa is the Square of Miracles<\/a>, a sanctuary with several 11th and 12th century buildings including the famous Leaning Tower<\/a>, the baptistery<\/a>, or Camposanto Cemetery<\/a>. Its origin dates back to the middle ages when Pisan sailors returning from Palestine brought back land that Christ would have trodden in order to bury it here. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Due to its soft ground, the Tower of Pisa is not the only building that leans in Pisa. After the ones in Square of Miracles, there are for example the tower in Piazza Santa Maria, the bell tower of the St. Nicholas Church and that of the St. Michael Church.<\/p>\n\n\n

You can visit Pisa in half a day if you limit yourself to the Piazza dei Miracoli, but the city has many other charms and deserves at least a full day. In addition, about ten kilometers the Marina di Pisa is a seaside resort with its beaches

Until the 14th century, Pisa was a much more active city than in our time and one of the most important cities in Italy. It was one of the four so-called Maritime Republics<\/strong>, like Venice, Genoa and Amalfi. His navy served to transport soldiers to the Holy Land, as well as trade in the Mediterranean which enriched it considerably and allowed him to build its sumptuous palaces.
Pisa was then a major center of science and knowledge, birthplace of Galileo<\/strong> (Galileo Galilei), and especially seat of the Scuola Normale di Pisa, one of the most prestigious universities in Italy still located there. <\/div><\/div>\n
