It is known worldwide as one of the emblems of Italy, both for its elegance and its unusual inclination.
It is 56 metres high and has six floors with pretty circular loggias.

History and presentation

The construction of the Tower of Pisa began in 1173 and continued until the middle of the 14th century to become the bell tower of the Cathedral of Pisa. Due to a very loose floor, it began to lean shortly after the start of the work. For this reason, they were interrupted after the completion of the first three levels, to be resumed in 1275 under the direction of Giovanni di Simone and Giovanni Pisano. They completed the following three rings, with a slight curve opposite the slope to counterbalance the inclination.

Tower of Pisa and the apse of the cathedral

View from the baptistery towards the tower

Today, the tower is tilted at about 5°.
