There are about 11,000 inhabitants. It has long been known for its alabaster production, and recently as a filming location for Twilight. For all these reasons, it has become a very tourist destination.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#e1e0db;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#fbfaf5;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\">Volterra was one of the main city-states of the former <strong>Etruria<\/strong>. The Romans made it a <em>municipium<\/em> before it became an influential episcopal seat from the 5th to the 12th century, very powerful in the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance, it was for a long time under the rule of Florence and the Medici. <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped
