Pleasant village of the Valdichiana in Tuscany, located at 400 meters altitude, Chiusi<\/strong> is also very close to Umbria. Without extraordinary charm at first glance, it was an important Etruscan city and keeps\u00a0 substantial testimonies, like necropolis of the surroundings.
Around the Piazza Duomo, you will discover the interesting cathedral, the Etruscan museum, an interesting museum with a underground route exploring the Etruscan and Roman remains, and in the town centre other discoveries of the Chiusi underground that go back to the Etruscan aqueducts.<\/p>\n

Piazza Duomo and Cathedral<\/h3>\n

The Chiusi Cathedral<\/strong> was a Paleochristian building dating back to the 6th century AD, which has been rebuilt several times, including at the end of the 19th century. The separate bell tower was originally a defensive tower, transformed in the 16th century and built over a Roman cistern.<\/p>\n

The interior is very attractive, with three naves separated by ancient marble and travertine columns, decorated with several frescoes, including the apse depicting the Martyr Orsola and Saint Catherine of Alexandria.<\/p>\n\n\n

Cathedral Museum and Porsenna Labyrinth<\/h3>\n

Next to the cathedral are the Diocesan Museum<\/strong> in the Episcopal Palace and the Etruscan galleries of Chiusi. The museum has objects from the 2nd to 20th century.
From the museum you can access the “Porsenna labyrinth”, with its narrow underground streets carved by the Etruscans of the 1st century BC. They were originally an aqueduct. The tunnels are 2 to 5 metres high, and there are cisterns, remains of enclosures, houses, urns, etc.<\/p>\n

National Archaeological Museum of Chiusi<\/h3>\n

Founded in 1871, the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Chiusi<\/strong> is a testimony to the city\u2019s important past.
Etruscan urns and sarcophagi, Roman works and objects, Lombard art are all to be found there.<\/p>\n\n\n

Santa Maria Novella Church<\/h3>\n

Santa Maria Novella<\/strong> is a church built on an older 11th century church whose apse and bell tower remain, which was also a defensive tower. Excavations inside have revealed Roman houses from the imperial era.<\/p>\n

Etruscan tombs and necropolis of Poggio Renzo<\/h3>\n

Close to Chiusi, there are nearly 20 Etruscan tombs<\/strong> including the necropolis of Poggio Renzo<\/strong>, some with some frescoes, such as the Monkey\u2019s Tomb, the Tomb of the Great Duke, the Lion\u2019s Tomb.<\/p>\n

Chiusi Lake<\/h3>\n

The second largest lake in Tuscany, the shores of Chiusi<\/strong> Lake <\/strong>are partly a protected oasis where migratory birds stop.
South Shore, there are facilities such as restaurants, fishing or rowing.<\/p>\n
